村子對外
牲口安然地吃草
在一閂上的木閘後頭；
一幅溫存的康特普式景象
廻旋着的光影與寂靜；
一道河水汩汩然的存在。
 
在其厖贅的圈子裏
巨石們仍自屹立
完整着原野
佇候着朝曦：
岡巖上有新露，濕潤
在一劍刃之上。
 
慢慢地，在月光之中
我單膝跪下
肅穆得如一騎士
順從着某種古老的箴規，
或自然得像那些黃牛一般
彎身汲水，俯向河霧裏。

Allegiance

Beyond the village
herds browse peacefully
behind a barred wooden gate,
a warm Constable scene *
of swirling shadows & silence;
a river’s murmuring presence.
 
In their cumbrous circle
the huge stones stand,
completing the plain,
attending the dawn,
dew on granite, damp
on a sword blade.
 
Slowly, in moonlight
I drop to one knee,
solemn as a knight
obeying an ancient precept,
natural as cattle
stooping in river mist.
